HOUSTON — Discovery Green is a 12-acre park in the heart of downtown Houston. Since opening in April 2008, they have welcomed more than 20 million visitors with hundreds of events a year, many of which are completely free. Now that the weather is cooling down, it's the perfect time to visit the park and take in the sights and various events.
Discovery Green's Halloween event, Scream on the Green , is on Friday, October 25 and will feature a costume contest, living sculptures, palm readers, psychics, games, music and more! There will be a live screening of "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" at the event. Those participating in the costume contest must pre-register online by 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 24.
Discovery Green will also host Dia de los Muertos on Friday, November 1. This event will feature hands-on art activities, artist demos, vendors and more. Houston artist Angel Quesada will build a community ofrenda for visitors to remember their loved ones. Visitors are invited to place images of their loved ones.
The beloved Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green opens on Friday, November 15, the same day that interactive public art installation ATLAS by Jen Lewin will be unveiled to the public.
Flea by Night , the outdoor market featuring one-of-a-kind vintage, handmade, recycled, and local goods, will be on Saturday, October 19. Starting after Thanksgiving through Christmas these will be weekly events.
Bank of America's Screen on the Green , which features games and activities followed by a family-friendly movie on the lawn, will show "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3" on Saturday, October 26 and "Inside Out 2" on Saturday, November 2 .
Discovery Green also offers recurring fitness classes, which include Spanish yoga on Mondays, yoga and sound meditation on Tuesdays, bilingual Zumba on Wednesdays, Line Dancing on Thursdays, and Hatha Yoga on Saturdays.
