Live radar: Tornado Watch issued for several counties north of Houston

The Watch is in effect until midnight.

HOUSTON — We're watching a line of storms moving towards our northern counties. Track the storms in live radar in the video window above.

CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS

  • A Tornado Watch is in effect until midnight for the following counties: Montgomery, Grimes, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Brazos, Madison, Houston Burleson and Washington. This includes the following cities: Brenham, Bryan, Caldwell, Coldspring, College Station, Conroe, Corrigan, Crockett, Groveton, Huntsville, Livingston, Madisonville, Navasota, Shepherd, Somerville, The Woodlands, and Trinity.
  • A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect fro NW Grimes County, north-central Burleson County, western Madison County and Brazos County until 8 p.m.

We're in a stretch of hot afternoons and warm overnights.

A building high-pressure system from the south will keep the weather conditions "high and dry" for much of the upcoming week. The good news is rain or storm chances are low. However, the bad news is that the weather setup will keep temperatures above average for the next seven days.

Late Month Temperature Outlook

Last weeks storms left nearly a million customers without power. While many customers' service has been restored, many are still without power and air conditioning.  In certain parts of the CenterPoint Energy service area, where the damage to infrastructure was significant, restoration efforts are expected to take several days, and some of the hardest-hit areas could take longer.

By the middle of the week we'll be watching some storms developing in north and central Texas. If the nudge far enough south they could produce some wind damage that stretches into Southeast Texas.

If this happens, it could open the door to the chance for a isolated storms Wednesday through the end of the week.  While the chance looks low at this point, it will be something to monitor over the coming days.  Otherwise, expect temperatures to run above normal in the low 90s through next weekend.
