HFD: Fire at recycling plant north of downtown Houston contained

A massive black smoke plume could be seen from the Eastex Freeway near I-10.

HOUSTON — The Houston Fire Department said a plastic recycling plant north of downtown caught fire Saturday morning. The fire has since been contained.

A massive black smoke plume could be seen from the Eastex Freeway near I-10. The plant is located on Semmes Street, which is off the Eastex Freeway feeder road. HFD first posted about the fire at 9:37 a.m.

HFD said about 50 people were evacuated from the plant and that air and water quality are within a safe range.

There were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.
