Thousands of people have called the Austin Police Department to report suspicious packages since March 12, the department said March 20.
Four explosions have rattled Austin in the month of March. Two people have died and four people have been injured. On March 20, a package sent from an Austin-area FedEx exploded at a FedEx facility in Schertz, a city southeast of Austin.
Authorities are telling Austin residents to not open unknown packages.
Austinites are listening to that warning. On March 20, Austin police tweeted that the department has received 1,257 calls about suspicious packages since 8 a.m. Monday, March 12. The Austin Police Department said officers will respond to any suspicious package call.
Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said March 20 his office has responded to roughly 100 suspicious package calls since March 3.
