Verizon installs first 5G network in Houston

The new service is on the ultra-wide band. The company says it will change how its customers use the internet.

Houston is now home to cutting edge technology.

Monday, Verizon installed the world’s first 5G network in the Bayou city.

KHOU 11 got an inside look as the process started in the Heights. The new service is on the ultra-wide band. The company says it will change how its customers use the internet.

If you’re wondering how you can get it, a Verizon official says the rollout is limited. But they’ll rapidly expand the coverage area as they get the equipment.

“5G is going to change the wat society interacts with things and places and people, and it’s going to give you speed that’s near real time,” says Verizon spokesperson Krista Bourne. “It’s going to be societal, it’s going to change the world we know and do things we can’t even imagine today.”

Los Angeles, Sacremento and Indianapolis will also get the first round of 5G.

You can see if your area is covered by this service by visiting Verizon’s website and typing in your address.
