After playing better than expected for a street free agent last season, the Houston Texans have rewarded Bruce Ellington with another one-year deal. Houston will bring back the slot receiver, the first internal free agent the team has re-signed from the open market.

Ellington played in 11 games last season, taking over quickly as the Texans’ primary slot receiver inside DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. He hauled in 29 passes for 334 yards and two TDs. All are career-highs. He finished the season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Staying on the field has been a problem for Ellington throughout his four-year NFL career. He missed the entire 2016 season when he was part of the San Francisco 49ers.
