Hundreds meet Jose Altuve at Academy in Katy

By 11 p.m. Sunday, more than 200 people had camped out outside the Academy. No one wanted to miss a chance to see the Astros All-Star.

KATY, Texas - Houston Astros second baseman and American League MVP Jose Altuve signed autographs for hundreds of fans Monday at the Academy in Katy off I-10 and the Grand Parkway.

But more than 24 hours before his appearance, hundreds of fans lined up to secure their place in line. Two hours before the event, Academy gave out 300 tickets for fans to attend the autograph session.

By 11 p.m. Sunday, more than 200 people had camped out outside the Academy. No one wanted to miss a chance to see the Astros All-Star.

As of 10 a.m. Monday the line was officially cut off.

Fans pitched tents and came bundled up ready to spend several hours in the cold. Temps are expected to dip into the 40s overnight, but fans say it's all worth it to see a player like Altuve up close and personal.
