Man looking for help after car runs out of gas on Grand Parkway struck, killed by driver

The driver of a F150 tried to swerve away from the man but couldn't avoid him.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man looking for help after his car ran out of gas on the Grand Parkway was struck and killed by a driver trying to avoid him early Saturday morning, deputies said.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the man and his wife were driving eastbound on the Grand Parkway when their car ran out of gas on the Telge exit ramp.

The man, who Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified as 30-year-old Michael Joice, told his wife to stay in the car while he went to get help.

Deputies said he tried to wave down a F150 that was approaching him. The driver of the F150 tried to swerve away from Joice but couldn't avoid him. The man was hit and pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the F150 was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Deputies said the driver showed no signs of intoxication.

At this time, there is no plans to charge the driver with any crime.

Several lanes of the Grand Parkway near Cypress Rosehill have been shut down while investigators work to clear the scene.
