Meet your 2018-19 Texans Cheerleaders

HOUSTON – Blessed, honored and grateful. That's how several of the 2018-19 Houston Texans Cheerleaders are feeling after learning they'd been selected to the squad on Tuesday evening.

Thirty-five women were chosen for the squad after being wittled down from a 2018 tryout class that included hundreds of women, and a handful of men.

The prospective cheerleaders' audition process began earlier this month with a two-day weekend group tryout at the Houston Methodist Training Center. Fifty-five finalists were chosen from that group, which was then narrowed down with the help of fan voting. Several of the chosen 35 took to Twitter to thank fans for their votes during the final selection.

A Texan's cheer coach says that social media has made a big difference when it comes to generating interest in the squad, and getting fan support in the selection process.

"Everyone has the same platform now, they have social media, they have Twitter, they have Instagram" said Coach Alto Gary. She said that's a big change from just 10 years ago, when trialists had to wait for their photos to make it on a Texans tryout website in order to get their name out there.

The Houston Texan's Cheerleaders appear on the sidelines during games and represent the team at a variety of public events over the course of the year.

Cheerleaders who were a part of 2017-18's squad, still had to try out in order to be picked for this year's team.
