PASADENA, Texas- A 17-year-old girl was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning in Pasadena.

The girl has been identified by family members as Alma Isabel Adame. She was a student at Pasadena High School.

Alma Isabel Adame.

“We called her Cutie. That was her nickname," said Jose Garcia, her uncle. "May she rest in peace.”

According to the city's fire department, they responded to a call about a house fire around 12:30 a.m on Randall Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters faced heavy smoke and large flames at the scene.

Officials confirmed Alma died in the fire. Her grandmother and mother were also inside the home when the fire started.

Alma's brother, David, heard the smoke alarms ringing from outside. "He ran up and banged on the doors, by then the smoke was pretty heavy and it got worse after that." said Garcia.

David and Alma's grandmother was able to get out of the house safely. David found his mother, Isabel Martinez, hanging from a second story window. She fell into her son's arms in the family's backyard.

She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is being treated for smoke inhalation. She is expected to survive.

Family said Martinez was living in her mother's home to take care of her.

The fire marshal said firefighters faced several challenges when extinguishing due to a second floor addition and another structure added to the back of the home.

“It’s still raw. We’re still trying to figure out what the next step is," said Garcia. "I mean look at the house."

The family is trying to salvage what they can from the home. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
