Photos: Murders of 3 Realtors in 1983 remain unsolved

Elizabeth Shumate, 54, was the first victim shot in the head, according to Houston Police. She was found tied up with a nylon Venetian blind cord.

JoAnn Brown, 46, was also found shot to death inside Shumate and Co. Realtors. She was shot in the head and found lying near the two other victims, Shumate and Ivey.

Frances Ivey, 60 was found shot in the head but still breathing when police arrived. She was taken by Life Flight to a hospital, where she later died.

Two people reported seeing a man near the real estate office around the time of the murders. Police released this composite sketch, hoping tips would come in.

The murders happened inside Shumate and Co. Realtors at 16007 Memorial Drive, near Highway 6 in west Houston.

It was closing time on August 19, 1983. Most of the employees left the building around 5:30 p.m. The crime scene was discovered by a temporary worker around 6:30 p.m.

Several items of jewelry were stolen, but investigators say the women did have time to hid some jewelry in chair cushions and trash can to keep them from being taken.
