Rolling power outages canceled: Entergy crews successfully energize lines impacted by Laura

Tens of thousands of Houston-area residents were without power for several hours due to rolling outages.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Montgomery County residents should see power restored to their homes soon after Entergy said they have successfully energized the transmission line that was damaged during Hurricane Laura.

"Around midnight, our reliability coordinator, MISO, canceled its order for periodic power outages in the Entergy Texas region. Shortly after this, Entergy Texas returned all customers who were affected by these rotating outages back in service," the company wrote on its website.

Montgomery County residents, as well as some living in Chambers, Liberty and Walker counties, were without power for about a day due to brownouts - which is an intentional drop in power supply.

Hurricane Laura damaged Entergy's key transmission lines, conductors, wooden and steel transmission towers that bring electrical power from the east. The brownouts in the Montgomery County area were necessary to protect the integrity of the power transmission line, according to Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack.

"If this line were to fail -- all of Texas Entergy customers would be without power," Noack wrote on Facebook.
