HOUSTON -- If you haven't seen how fast the rain will clear, take a look at this - by 8 a.m. rain should be out with sunshine peaking through the clouds by noon and sunny skies and 70's will kick in for the afternoon.

Big changes throughout the day. Strong storms and heavy rain across the area now but significant changes this afternoon.

Another indication just how strong this cold front is take a look at the temperatures! Dropping rapidly behind the cold front.

This is also the reason these storms are so strong. With cold dry air behind the front and warm moist air ahead of the front- a big collision happens when the cold front moves through, providing uplift and energy for strong to severe thunderstorms. The good news- if you have a house full- just wait until 9am and you can send everyone outside!

Don't be too scared about the New Years Eve forecast... hopefully the rain will move in early and clear in time for the celebrations. The one thing I can tell you... it is going to be CHILLY!
