Hurricane Paulette returns from the dead as zombie storm ‘because 2020’

In the year where nothing really surprises us anymore, we have a “zombie tropical storm.” Seriously.

HOUSTON — We thought Paulette had disappeared into the watery grave where all storms go to die. Nope. She’s baaaaa-aack.

More than a week after hitting Bermuda as a hurricane, Paulette came back to life in the Atlantic.

It regenerated as a tropical storm near the Azores on Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

"Because 2020, we now have Zombie Tropical Storms. Welcome back to the land of the living, Tropical Storm Paulette,” the National Weather Service tweeted.

Paulette's encore didn't last long. Forecasters say the storm faded again Wednesday, hopefully for the last time.

There have been so many storms already this year that NHC forecasters ran out of letters from the traditional alphabet and had to move to the Greek version.

The good news: experts aren’t expecting anything else to pop up in the Atlantic in the next several days. Then again, it’s 2020 so expect the unexpected.
