Lightning strike sets pickup on fire, according to Harris Co. Pct 4

The pickup was at Collins Park on Cypresswood. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

HOUSTON — Storms that moved across the Houston area Tuesday came with plenty of lightning.  And lightning from one of those storms may have been what started a fire that engulfed a pickup truck in northwest Harris County.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office shared photos of the truck on social media. They say it was struck by lightning at Collins Park on Cypresswood Drive near North Greenfield Drive.  Precinct 4, along with the Klein Fire Department, responded.

The good news – no injuries were reported, but it show how dangerous lightning can be. According to KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul, a lightning strike can get up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

And while it's dangerous, did you also know that lightning helps plants grow?
