We've traded heat advisories for rain chances this week as the heat dome moves away from us.
Expect to see scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon this week. Today the best rain threat will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Temperatures should be in the mid 90's feeling more like 105.
Keep the umbrella around for the remainder of the week and even in to the weekend.
Several factors are currently helping to suppress tropical storm and hurricane development. One of the biggest is another round of dust from the Sahara Desert.
This dust represents dry, sinking air and can significantly reduce storm count. Tropical storms need warm, moist, rising air to get going so this dust is the exact opposite!
However, models are sniffing a robust surge of tropical moisture moving in to Texas this coming weekend. That should significantly increases our rain chances this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It's easy to let your guard down when the tropics are quiet. We are just entering the 'busy' time in the tropical Atlantic. Things this time of year can change in a hurry and I urge you to watch our weather-cast at least once a day, everyday, so no one gets caught off guard.
