Forecast: Near-record heat again Friday; rain chances and cooler afternoons next week

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Storm Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — Happy Friday! Got weekend plans? Well, there's not much change as the 'heat dome' remains over head. The numbers may come down slightly, but we're still expecting dry weather and highs around 103 for Saturday and 101 for Sunday.

Early next week is when we see some changes! The ridge of high pressure responsible for our heat will shift westward, and this will open the door for a weak "cool" front to slide through Central Texas on Monday. Now let's go into this with realistic expectations for late June. It won't get cold, but we will get a couple of days of decent rain chances and high temperatures that drop as low as the low to mid 90s by mid week.

As of now, it looks like the best rain chances will come Monday afternoon/evening, then another opportunity for rain and storms on Tuesday as the front stalls nearby and we get a push of Gulf moisture.

Our latest rainfall projections call for totals mainly between a quarter inch and three quarters of an inch with some locally higher amount around an inch possible. We could see these numbers trending a bit higher in the coming days (fingers crossed), so we'll keep you posted over the weekend.
