Wrong-way driver dies after crashing into big rig on I-45

I-45 North has reopened after an early-morning crash involving a wrong-way driver.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A driver traveling in the wrong direction on I-45 North has died after crashing into an 18-wheeler, the sheriff's office says.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. near Spring Stuebner, shutting down the northbound lanes in Spring for about five hours.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when he crashed into the big rig. The Mustang driver died at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt.

The southbound lanes were briefly closed but quickly reopened. The northbound lanes have now reopened as well after a lengthy investigation and hazmat cleanup.
