HPD: Woman killed during chase while driving wrong way on North Loop

Investigators say the woman was driving the wrong way for quite some time and that deputies with Precinct 3 tried stopping her before the crash.

HOUSTON — A driver was killed and another person was injured Saturday after a wrong-way crash on 610 North Loop, according to Houston police.

The crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. on the North Loop near North McCarty Street.

Harris County Precinct 1 deputies were chasing a woman who was driving the wrong way in a grey Honda Civic on the Hardy Toll Road. The deputies drove alongside her in the correct flow of traffic with their lights and sirens on, police said.

She eventually made her way onto the North Loop where she crashed head-on with the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe. Police said she died at the scene. Meanwhile, the man driving the SUV was taken to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in critical condition.

Police said it's too early to know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

No one else was injured

Both HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division and Precinct 3 are investigating.
