HOUSTON – A fatal crash between a motorcycle and a pickup truck shut down all southbound mainlanes of I-45 the North Freeway early Monday.
Houston TranStar reports the crash happened before 3 a.m. near Parker Road. The freeway and inbound HOV lane did not fully reopen until about 6:30 a.m.
Police at the scene say the motorcyclist was killed, and the pickup driver was injured. Witnesses told police it appeared the two vehicles were racing when they collided, causing the pickup to rollover.
Police say the HOV inbound lane was blocked because the pickup damaged a center barrier.
The Texas Department of Transportation responded to the scene along with police and EMS to assess the damage to the roadway.
