HOUSTON -- A suspect was killed when a chase ended in a fiery crash on I-10 East in the Channelview area early Wednesday, the sheriff's office confirms.
The chase started as a traffic stop, according to deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The suspect was driving a Chevrolet Impala when he or she got on the freeway heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.
The driver crashed into a barrier and a big rig before the vehicle caught fire, according to HCSO.
The suspect died at the scene. There were no early reports of other deaths or serious injuries.
Houston TranStar reports the freeway's eastbound lanes were closed near Magnolia around 1:30 a.m. The freeway did not fully reopen until about 8 a.m., resulting in delays on I-10 East, Beltway 8 and Highway 90.
