Get paid $40 to tell TxDOT about trouble spots on Houston roads

TxDOT is paying people in gift cards for their feedback on roads in the Houston area.

HOUSTON — We all could use a little extra cash after the holidays. How about getting paid to weigh in on how TxDOT could improve our roadways?

From rush hour traffic to ongoing construction, driving in Houston can be frustrating. It’s a topic Houstonians have a lot of opinions on.

"Westheimer, they need to figure out how to properly time these lights so traffic can flow,” driver Lawrence Richardson of Houston said.

“My two cents on what’s going on and what’s going wrong, there's just too many options for people, too many lanes and not enough notifications," driver Krystyna Harper added.

So how about a little cash while you’re at it. TxDOT has hired ETC Institute, a third-party vendor to conduct what they’re calling the “Texas Travel Survey.” The institute is offering $40 gift cards for data collected that will help TxDOT decide what projects to prioritize to help traffic flow in metropolitan areas.

TxDOT says the survey was put out in early December, but hasn’t got the response they were hoping for.

Emily Black with TxDOT says time is on their side.

"This is a big survey we're doing, up to 10,000 households conducted in five different languages," Black said. "Started at end of the year and it will be going for two years.

It’s not just drivers they’re looking for.

“All types of transportation, whether it's bikes, bus, driving, we want the public feedback," Black said.

Whether you've put it off or are just learning about it, you have until 2024 to let your voice be heard.

Want to take the survey?  You can do that here.
