HOUSTON — A driver faces intoxication manslaughter charges following a deadly crash on the I-10 East Freeway early Friday, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
According to Houston Transtar, this happened just before 1 a.m. near the Magnolia Avenue exit.
The sheriff said three people were pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash.
The three victims were said to be standing outside of their vehicle on the side of the road when they were hit by another driver, the sheriff said. The driver in the second vehicle showed signs of intoxication and will be charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter.
"I just ask the community to pull together," HCSO Capt. Anthony McConnell said. "We got at least two families out here that are going to be changed forever. The other thing I want the community to do is to stop drinking and driving. It's a real simple and easy incident to avoid."
He said it's an avoidable incident and that drivers should think of other people when they start drinking.
The freeway was closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation. It has since reopened.
