Houston-area native Brianna Turner is headed to the Phoenix Mercury after being traded on draft night from the Atlanta Dream.

Turner, who starred at Notre Dame after graduating from Manvel High School in 2014, was selected by the Dream with the No. 11 overall pick.

The Dream announced after the draft they would be trading the rights to Turner to the Mercury.

That means Turner joins another Houston women's basketball legend: Mercury star Brittney Griner.

Turner is coming off an appearance in the NCAA women's national championship game.

Notre Dame lost that game to Baylor 82-81, but defeated Mississippi State the previous year.

Turner was out with an ACL injury for the championship winning season. She averaged 14.3 points this past season.
