Nominations are open to the public. The Houston Sports Awards are Feb. 8, 2018.

Nominations for the first Houston Sports Awards are due Dec. 1.

Any athlete, coach or administrator, male or female, living or deceased, that has either played or served in sport in the Greater Houston area or is from the Greater Houston area, and played or served in sport, is eligible for nomination for the Houston Sports Awards, according to the event's website.

Nominations are open to the public. The Houston Sports Awards are Feb. 8, 2018.

The KHOU 11 SportsExtra team offered its nominations during Sunday's broadcast.

The Awards consist of 10 categories, including Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year and Moment of the Year.

Matt Musil, Seth Payne and Daniel Gotera each believe Jose Altuve most deserves a nomination for top athlete, while Jason Bristol chose J.J. Watt for his humanitarian efforts.

Mike D'Antoni earns Payne's nod for Coach of the Year. Gotera selects Kingwood football coach Barry Campbell, whose team made the playoffs, despite losing everything during Harvey. Musil picks Cy Falls basketball coach Richard Flores and Bristol went with Wilmer Cabrera from the Dynamo.

In Gotera's opinion, Alex Bregman's game-winning hit in Game 5 of the World Series deserves a nomination for Moment of the Year. Bristol picks the Astros' championship parade. Musil would nominate George Springer's home run in Game 7 of the World Series. Payne likes the Texans moving up in last April's draft to select Deshaun Watson.

The Hilton Americas-Houston will host the Houston Sports Awards.
