Texans playoff scenarios: Houston could end up anywhere from the top seed to the sixth

There's a whole lot riding on the final week of the regular season in the NFL.

The Texans are in the playoffs. That much we know. Who and when they play is still up in the air.

As we go into the final week of the NFL season, there’s still a lot at stake. The Houston Texans could end up as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Or they could stumble in at No. 6. Here are the scenarios, according to CBS Sports.

Houston can clinch the AFC South division title and home-field advantage throughout AFC playoffs with:

1) HOU win + NE loss or tie + KC loss + LAC loss + HOU clinches a tie in strength of victory tiebreaker over KC

Houston can clinch the AFC South division title and a first-round bye with:

1) HOU win + NE loss or tie

2) HOU win + KC loss + LAC loss + HOU clinches a tie in strength of victory tiebreaker over KC

3) HOU tie + NE loss

4) IND-TEN tie + NE loss + BAL win + HOU clinches a tie in strength of victory tiebreaker over BAL

Houston can clinch the AFC South division title with:

1) HOU win or tie

2) IND-TEN tie

Houston hosts Jacksonville Sunday, while Indianapolis and Tennessee face each other. If the Texans beat Jacksonville, they will win the AFC South. If they lose – unless the Indy-Tennessee game ends in a tie -- they would fall all the way to No. 6.

In the other matchups, New England takes on the Jets, Kansas City plays Oakland, and the Chargers travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.
