Davenport admits his penalties hurt Texans in 27-22 loss to Giants

Perhaps the biggest disappointment was when Julién Davenport held Giants defensive end Kerry Wynn and nullified a 6-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson to receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Julién Davenport had a bad day at the office with five penalties in the Houston Texans’ 27-22 letdown to the New York Giants Sunday at NRG Stadium.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment was when the right tackle held Giants defensive end Kerry Wynn and nullified a 6-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson to receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The Texans were able to get the touchdown, but they wasted 45 seconds off the game clock in a game where the Texans needed all the time they could save.

The Texans had trouble with penalties on the afternoon as they had seven accepted penalties for 50 yards compared to the Giants’ three accepted for 20. Houston’s offensive line was flagged six times on the afternoon.

If the Texans are to find a way to climb out of their 0-3 hole, it will have to involve fixing the penalty issues with the offensive line.
