In a season of exploding scoring and 3-point shooting, records will inevitably start to fall. The first went down Wednesday night.

The Houston Rockets set a new single-game record with 26 3-pointers in a 136-118 victory over the Washington Wizards. Eight different players hit from deep as the Rockets shot 26-of-55 (47.3 percent), and five players made at least three from downtown.

James Harden led the charge, shooting 6-of-11 on 3s and 10-of-18 overall for a game-high 35 points. Chris Paul made five 3s, Eric Gordon and Gerald Green had four each, P.J. Tucker hit three, and Danuel House Jr. made two. Gary Clark and Michael Carter-Williams came off the bench late with the outcome decided and hit one 3-pointer each.

"It shows the hard work that we've been putting in," said Harden. "It's pretty cool to be a part of it. You're in the books."

Clark made the record-tying 3 with about 2½ minutes left. With the mark in sight, the fans started chanting for a 3 whenever the Rockets got the ball.

They let out a collective groan as Houston missed its next four attempts before Carter-Williams hit the record-breaker with 30 seconds left to a huge roar from the home crowd.

"All I was hearing were my teammates saying 'shoot it, shoot it,' " Carter-Williams said. "So we were just out there trying to make the last one. I had a good, clean look so I just tried to knock it down."
