Pedicab driver lifts bummed Astros fans

Some fans scored a sweet pick-me-up from a retired Navy veteran after the Astros lost Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox.

HOUSTON — Some fans scored a sweet pick-me-up from a retired Navy veteran after the Astros lost Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox.

Adam Thomas drives buses for Klein ISD and pedals people around Houston in his spare time for Lone Star Bike Cabs with a memorable motto.

“Don’t worry about the weight -- just keep loading the wagon,” he said.

He never charges. Thomas works only for tips. His sign said $20 tips make him smile while $100 tips make his year.

“I’ve had people give me a dollar,” Thomas said. “But I don’t even trip about that, because it’s eventually going to come back to me anyway.”

One month on his side hustle helped Thomas lose 36 pounds and make extra money.

“At the Texans and Cowboys game, I made enough to leave at halftime,” he said.

Thomas also won more goodwill than he ever imagined.

“I’ve been all over the world, man,” he said. “There’s nothing like Houston. There’s nowhere like Houston. We’re all friendly. Everybody speaks. Everybody likes coming here. New York, Boston, football teams, (it) just sucks when they get beat then they (have) to go home mad.”

Even when his Astros lose, Thomas loves riding around Minute Maid Park. He and the team are linked by fans picked up at the park.
