Carlos Beltran to receive Sports Illustrated Hope Award

The award honors athletes who continue to give back to their communities as they gain success around the world.

Astros outfielder Carlos Beltran will be the Hope Award recipient at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Award Ceremony in December.

The award honors athletes who continue to give back to their communities as they gain success around the world.

Beltran raised nearly $1.5 million to go towards the recover effort in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

This the first year the award will be handed out during the special ceremony on Dec. 5.

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Maya Moore of the WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx will also be honored with awards.

“There are so many great athletes making a difference for their team and for their communities, and recognizing success in both arenas is important to us at Sports Illustrated” said Steve Cannella, Executive Editor of Sports Illustrated. “Joel, Maya, and Carlos embody the best of these qualities and we are excited to honor them at this year’s SI Sportsperson of the Year Awards show.”
