Astros complete series sweep of New York Yankees

That’s just after doing the same against American League West rival Oakland Athletics.

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros are on a six-game winning streak after a rocky start to the season.

They completed a three-game series sweep of the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday night. That’s just after doing the same against American League West rival Oakland Athletics.

All six of the wins came at home.

This is the first time the Astros have ever swept a series against the Yankees.

Jose Altuve homered twice for Houston in Wednesday’s 8-6 victory – a solo shot to left field in the first inning and another to left in the fifth frame.

Altuve is having a huge week. Before this series, he'd hit just two home runs in 39 games against the Yankees. Altuve blasted four of them in the last three games, including the 100th of his career.

The Astros’ bats really came alive in the fifth, with Altuve’s homer followed by Carlos Correa’s two-run shot.

Jake Marisnick also singled in a run to put the Astros up 7-2.

The Yankees rallied in the eighth inning, scoring four runs to threaten Houston’s lead by just a single run.

But George Springer added some cushion in the bottom half of the eighth with an RBI-single to center.

Collin McHugh (2-1) picked up his second straight win, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings. He also struck out nine.

Reliever Ryan Pressly recorded the save, striking out three of the five hitters he faced.

The Astros are off Thursday before heading to Seattle for a three-game series against the Mariners, who boast a league-best 12-2 record.
