CONCORD -- Charlotte native William Byron signed a multi-year agreement with Hendrick Motorsports, the team announced Thursday.

Byron will race full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series for HMS affiliate JR Motorsports beginning in 2017.

Byron, a 19-year-old graduate of Charlotte Country Day, has won a rookie-record five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season.

“Even before I started racing, it was a dream of mine to drive for Hendrick Motorsports,” Byron said in a statement. "This is the biggest announcement and biggest opportunity of my life, and I will do everything I can to make the most of it. I’m proud to be part of this team.”
