Witnesses recount scary moments during Pearland Tornado

PEARLAND, Texas After the National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado touched down in Pearland Wednesday afternoon some witnesses were recalling the frightening experience.

Pearland police issued a shelter-in-place order near Main and Plum around noon after a funnel cloud was spotted.

Sounded like somebody dumped 5 billion coke cans on the roof all at once. You just hear the whole thing just peel right off, says Jeff Leonard, who with another employee were inside Cody s Bike Shop when the storm hit.

I m like uhh, we ve got to find somewhere because we are about to lose this whole roof, he said.

That is exactly what happened.

The steel roof in place over the original roof on the old Pearland building didn t last long.

Stuck my head out the door and said, Yeah the roof s gone. I didn t realize it was over there in Chevron, he said.

The leaves may have fallen from the trees, but now it is replaced with insulation from the roof.

We are insulating half of Pearland right now, said Cody Cardenas.

Around the corner on Broadway it was the doors slamming on their own that got Mary Spencer s attention first.

These plastic things just started flying around in the street. We had one of these things over there and it took it and ripped it off the wall, she said.
