NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) - A Newport News woman claims she’s being flooded with unwanted phone calls from Cuisinart customers.

The maker of Cuisinart recently recalled 8 million food processors, because the blades can break off. Cuisinart asks affected customers to call 877-339-2534 for a replacement blade. But Jacqueline McDonald says that number is redirecting many callers to her phone.

“Two or three days ago I started getting calls, and I just thought they were wrong numbers. But as I paid attention, they were all saying the same thing about this Cuisinart recall,” she said.

McDonald said she’s picked up over 100 phone calls from all over the country.

“I get like ten calls back to back—bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. I get calls from all kinds of area codes—from Las Vegas, Puerto Rico,” she said.

The first seven numbers of the Cuisinart recall number is McDonald’s home phone number. She believes people, who are calling from landlines, are not dialing 1 first, and the call goes directly to her.

“See, that's my number. But my area code is 757. So when they're dialing those first seven numbers, that's what they're going to get--my phone. So I tell them, ‘Maybe you should dial 1 first, and then you can get the number,’” she said.

McDonald says the calls are annoying and giving her a headache, but she’s never mean to anyone she talks to because she knows it’s not their fault.

“I try to be nice to everyone. I talk pretty decent to people—I try to put myself in their shoes. They’re just trying to find the information. They’re only dialing the numbers that they (Cuisinart) gave them,” she said.

McDonald hopes Cuisinart either changes the recall number or notifies customers that they must dial 1 when calling from a landline.

“This is very annoying. They need to compensate me for sitting here answering the phone.”
