The 41st president of the United States didn't want his burial arraignments to be overly complicated.
In a letter dated June 10, 1991 to his personal secretary Patty Presock, George H.W. Bush wrote down the following instructions:
“I want the song 'Last full Measure of Devotion' sung by a good male soloist at any church or memorial service.
"Gravestone – the plain stones we see at Arlington. I would like my navy number on it on the back of it. I believe it is 0173464 (ask Don Rhodes)
"Also on the stone in addition to what I already requested: 'He loved Barbara very much.'"
It was signed "gb."
George H.W. Bush died Nov. 30. He will be laid to rest Thursday. His final resting place alongside Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years who passed in April, and Robin Bush, his 3-year-old daughter who died of leukemia in 1953.
