Neighbor decorates gate shared for decades with George H.W., Barbara Bush

HOUSTON — For Ed Parker, it was the only thing he needed to do Saturday.

He had to order wreaths and hang them on his front gate. The gate he shared with his neighbors, former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara.

A sad day for Houston and for America. Outside Former President H.W. Bush’s gate, mourners are leaving flowers in his memory. The official funeral wreaths were hung as neighbors remember the vibrant lives who are no longer part of their small community. #Bush41 #ripgeorgehwbush #georgehwbush

“The neighborhood will never be the same,” Parker said. "They were the best neighbors in the world.

"Barbara and I used to walk the dogs, every day for 20 years. I miss her and I miss George.”

Inside his house, Parker showed us the snapshots he's taken with the former president over the years.

"The country's lost a great person. He was a great man,” Parker said.

The three wreaths were ordered Saturday morning and hung by the hands of their creator.

"We're honored to somehow in some small way do flowers in their memory,” said Ken Senter, owner of The Senterpiece.

Senter says they also designed the wreaths that were hung when we lost the former First Lady in April.

"When Barbara passed away, they wanted all white, just beautiful soft white flowers,” Senter said. “And for Mr. Bush, they wanted patriotic, red white and blue, so we just did those flowers."

As the hours pass since the loss of the beloved president, the memorial continues to grow in front of his home.

Strangers stopped by to give their condolences for a couple who left such a mark on America and the people who lived next door.
