Papa John's delivery driver shot, killed outside N. Harris County apartments

Deputies say the pizza delivery guy dropped off the pizza at one of the apartments and was walking back to his car when he was gunned down.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies are searching for two men after a Papa John's delivery driver was shot and killed after making a stop at a north Harris County home Thursday night.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies say the two male suspects drove off in a grey car.

Deputies say the pizza delivery guy dropped off the pizza at one of the apartments and was walking back to his car when he was gunned down.

"I was driving into my apartments I parked my car and I heard a gunshot, I kinda froze for a moment," a resident said.

The resident, who asked us not to identify him, said the pizza was delivered to his apartment. His wife was one of the last people to speak with the driver. Moments later the driver was shot dead in the parking lot

"I saw two guys running, I told my wife I think I should call 911," he said. "She was like, ‘Oh, I hope they wasn't trying to rob the pizza man cuz he just literally ran out the door.’"

He says he went outside to check things out.

"Walked around and saw a guy laying between the cars. I saw the Papa John’s hat," he said.

He died in the parking lot. Deputies say additional information is scarce.

A motive is unclear and right now we don't know if this was a random robbery or if the victim and suspects knew each other.

It happened around 9 p.m. outside an apartment complex located in the 21700 block of Inverness Forest Boulevard.

Here is statement from Keith Sullins, president of Papa John’s Houston:

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident involving one of our valued delivery drivers. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement officials as their investigation continues. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and team members. We will support the family during this difficult time and plan to pay for his funeral services.”
