WATCH: 'Special Air Mission 41' flies over George H.W. Bush Presidential Library

A special airborne tribute over the heart of Aggieland paid tribute to former President George H.W. Bush on Wednesday.
'Special Air Mission 41' conducts tribute flight over George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.

'Special Air Mission 41' honored former President George H.W. Bush over College Station just before sunset Wednesday. The 89th Airlift Wing, based at Joint Base Andrews, conducted the tribute flight over the site where Bush will be laid to rest.

The aircraft flew over the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center around 4:20 p.m. People lined the roof of a campus building to pay their respects.

The mission soared over the heart of Aggieland before landing at Ellington Field around 5:05 p.m.

The aircraft is one of two VC-25As assigned to the Presidential Airlift Group. When a sitting president in onboard, the plane is referred to as Air Force One. In support of the State Funeral, the aircraft's call sign was "Special Airlift Mission 41."

The late President Bush will be laid to rest at Texas A&M, alongside Barbara Bush's gravesite.
