A bridge that partially collapsed in Sealy, crushing a car and killing a 12-year-old girl and injuring her mom, will be demolished, the Texas Department of Transportation confirmed Monday.

Officials say SH 36 in Sealy will be closed in both directions beginning Tuesday morning to remove the U.S. 90 bridge.

It was just before 10 a.m. last Thursday when a large truck hit the bridge on Highway 36 at Highway 90, causing the collapse. Brein Bollock, 12, was in the front seat and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mom, Leah, was driving the vehicle and was taken to the hospital by Life Flight. The victim's 9-year-old brother was in the back seat and he walked away with minor injuries.

Authorities say they should be finished with the removal by Thursday if there are no issues.

Officials in 2014 said they were exploring various options for the bridge – which was built in 1936 – including replacing it with a new one in 2017.
