Rodeo season kicks off with Uncorked

More than 100 restaurants paired foods with more than 500 international wines for the event

HOUSTON — Rodeo season is officially underway in Houston. It kicked off Sunday night with Rodeo Uncorked!, a huge food and wine event.

More than 100 local restaurants teamed up with wineries from all over the world to serve up pairings. Some of those 500 wines will be available for you to try in the rodeo's wine garden starting in just more than a week.

"The public will be able to come in and sample nearly 60 of the award-winning wines from the international wine competition this year," said Tamra Daniels, vice chairman of the PR/print media team for the HLSR wine committee.

In all more than 4,000 people turned out, raising money for the rodeo's scholarship fund.

The event also handed out awards for Best Bites. Check out the full list of winners below.

  • Grand Champion: Brothers Produce

People’s Choice Award

  • Grand Champion: Grazia’s Italian Kitchen – Wagyu Ribeye Burnt Ends over Sharp Cheddar Stone-ground Grits
  • Reserve Grand Champion: Killen’s BBQ – Pork Belly Burnt Ends

Tasty Tradition Award

  • Grand Champion: Trentino Gelato – Dulce de Leche Gelato Pop

Trailblazing Appetizer Award

  • Grand Champion: Broken Barrel – Crispy Plantain with Pulled Pork
  • Reserve Grand Champion: Uchi Houston – Kiwi Salmon
  • Third Place: The Art Institute of Houston – Smoked Buffalo Street Taco

Lone Star Entrée Award

  • Grand Champion: Ouise’s Table – Short Rib Tacos with Poblano
  • Reserve Grand Champion: Merlion – Ribeye Kang Kari (Yellow Curry)
  • Third Place: Sonoma Wine Bar & Restaurant – 44 Farms Red Wine 7-hour Braised Short Rib with Herbed Mashed Potato & Heirloom Carrots

 Two-Steppin’ Dessert Award

  • Grand Champion: Ashley Cakes – “Royal” Mini Cake Shot
  • Reserve Grand Champion: Red Desserts Dive – Bourbon Caramel Cupcake
  • Third Place: Seasons 52 – Belgian Chocolate S’more
