AUSTIN -- A jury has found a 22-year-old man not guilty by reason of insanity in the September 2013 death of his father.

Alexander Ervin was charged with murder in his father's death. Officers found Ray Scott Ervin, 58, dead in his West Austin home with multiple stab wounds last September.

According to KVUE's partners at the Austin American-Statesman, Judge Cliff Brown committed Alexander Ervin to a state hospital for 30 days for a mental evaluation. He has a hearing on Jan. 16.

The Statesman reports Alexander Ervin's defense lawyers said he was having a psychotic episode the evening he stabbed and killed his father.
