Grand Prairie officers shoot man who pointed replica shotgun at them, police say

After fleeing officers for about 200 yards, Christopher McGrew pointed "what appeared to be a shotgun" at the officers, who then fired their guns at McGrew, police said.

Grand Prairie police shot a man who pointed a replica shotgun at officers during a foot chase early Sunday, officials said.

The suspect, Christopher McGrew, 39, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

An officer saw McGrew involved in a "suspicious circumstance" in a parking lot off South Great Southwest Parkway and West Marshal Drive about 1:40 a.m., according to a police news release. The officer tried to arrest McGrew, who fled in a vehicle.

Officers saw McGrew place what appeared to be a gun out of the window multiple times, the news release said. McGrew then abandoned the vehicle in the 2100 block of Bardin Road and fled on foot.

After fleeing officers for about 200 yards, he pointed "what appeared to be a shotgun" at the officers, who then fired their guns at McGrew, police said. The officers rendered aid until the man was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

McGrew faces charges of felony evading arrest, and a bond forfeiture warrant for marijuana possession out of Rockwall County, police said.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
