The medical examiner’s office announced that a 3-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in the deep end of a pool Saturday night has died.

Mitchell Chang was found at about 7:45 Saturday night in the deep end of the pool at Love to Swim on 20200 Stone Oak Parkway.

Police said staff members found the boy, called an ambulance and performed CPR until first responders arrived. The boy was taken to North Central Baptist Hospital, where he died early Sunday morning.

The pool was hosting a special Date Night event on Saturday night. A former employee tells KENS 5 that date night is a peace of mind event for parents. Parents drop their kids off and pick them up later. Activities during this event include swimming, arts and crafts and a movie.

This former employee also told us that during date night, the youngest children accepted are 3 years old. This former employee worked at a different location, other than the Stone Oak swim school.

Irene Canales has a son who is almost three years old and says her son may have been classmates with Chang at the swim school.

"For it to be one of my son's friends it is just tough, she said. "But it doesn't change our perspective on the school at all. We have a lot of love for the program. They have been great with our son. They have been great with us."

Love to Swim School released the following statement on Sunday:

Dear Families,

The Love to Swim School ownership, staff and families are devastated by the accident that occurred during Date Night Open Swim at our Stone Oak facility on Saturday evening, February 10, 2018. All our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Our hearts are heavy with grief. We will use all information gathered by the San Antonio Police Department, and our internal review, to make sure nothing like this can ever happen again. Teaching children to be safer in the water is the reason we exist and our ongoing mission. We will issue a further statement as our investigation yields.
