Teen suspect arrested in shooting that killed 8-year-old boy outside nail salon

Criminal records show the suspect in the case was previously arrested in 2017 on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

HOUSTON -- Houston Police on Wednesday arrested a man in the murder of a child on Scott Street.

Devonte Lockett, 18, is charged in the murder of 8-year-old Tristian Hutchins.

A few weeks ago, gunmen opened fire on a car with three children inside parked outside a nail salon on Scott Street near Wheeler Avenue.

Tristian and his 5-year-old sister, Khersistan, were injured in the shooting. Tristian died from his injuries late last week.

Criminal records show the suspect in the case, Lockett, was previously arrested in 2017 on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

More details in the case are expected Friday.

Mayor Sylvester Turner, among others, pleaded for people to come forward.
