Porch thief who steals wreath from Cypress home has change of heart

Home surveillance camera caught the act which shows a hooded and masked thief stealing a wreath off of Kassy Diaz’s front door.

CYPRESS, Texas — A porch thief having a change of heart is usually not a story that gets told as it rarely happens. Happily, it did in Cypress.

Home surveillance camera caught the act which shows a hooded and masked thief stealing a wreath off of Kassy Diaz’s front door.

The wreath was handmade by her mother, Carmina.

“My mom was in shock,” said Kassy. “My dad was upset. The kids were crying!”

“How crazy it was for somebody to actually steal a wreath? Out of all the things you can steal… a wreath!”

Kassy figured it was a teen pulling a prank or fulfilling a dare and had no hopes of getting it back. But she posted the surveillance video to Facebook anyway, just in case. A few days later they got an anonymous delivery.

“The UPS guy knocked on my door and they gave us a big fan box. We didn’t know what it was so we opened it.”

The wreath was inside along with $20 is an envelope that said, “Happy New Year”.

“My mom was crying happy tears!”

The Diaz family thinks the thief’s parents saw the video.

“I think it was the mom. Like, they noticed the kid stole something and they were like, ‘this is coming out of your allowance!’.”

Which ended up turning a negative experience into a positive reminder.

“There are still good people,” said Carmina. “And God bless the mom of the child.”
