HOUSTON — Tuesday was day three of the tank farm fire at Intercontinental Terminals Company in the La Porte/Deer Park area.
Overnight there was a setback in containing the fire due to a drop in water pressure, the company says. The fire grew more intense, continuing to send a big black plume of smoke into the sky.
The state and county air alert monitors show chemical levels are within their typical level close the ground, but out of a precaution, some school districts have cancelled classed Wednesday.
Meteorologist Blake Mathews says the smoke is shifting south and will reach areas like Acres Home, Willowbrook and Jersey Village.
The smoke should stay above our heads because there is no rain or fog in the forecast for the next several days. Our next chance for rain is Saturday and Blake says if the fire is still abrupt, that could be a cause for concern.
Tuesday afternoon the plume was about 5,000 feet in the air, but overnight the plume will drop to 400 feet. This is due to cool air entering our are.

Our meteorologist will continue to monitor air quality Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure moves in and becomes the air becomes stagnant.
