HOUSTON – Police are investigating a crash that left one man dead early Saturday morning in southwest Houston.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday at West Orem Drive and Hiram Clarke Road. Police say a man driving a white Pontiac Sunfire was either making a U-turn or turning onto Hiram Clarke southbound when a gray Infiniti struck him from behind.
Authorities say the driver of the Infiniti was going approximately 80 mph south on Hiram Clarke toward Orem at the time of the crash. They say the impact caused the Pontiac driver to be thrown back through the rear window.
The driver of the Infiniti drove past Orem but came to a stop a block away after the damage rendered the car inoperable. Police say he appeared to be intoxicated when they arrived and will likely face failure to stop and render aid and intoxication manslaughter charges.
