Mister McKinney’s History Bus tours Christmas lights in historic River Oaks neighborhood

Christmas may be over but the holiday cheer doesn't have to be! There's still time to tour some beautiful Christmas lights. In Wednesday morning's HTown60, our Michelle Choi takes us on a ride through the historic River Oaks neighborhood.

Lights, camera and a history lesson?

Welcome to Mister McKinney’s River Oaks Christmas Lights Tour! He and his famous history tour bus will be our guide.

When you hop on board during the holidays, you’ll get to tour some amazing light displays here in the historic River Oaks neighborhood, which was founded in 1924.

From River Oaks Boulevard to Inwood Drive, you’ll get to see elaborately decorated homes on every corner!

While he’s no ghost of Christmas past, McKinney will definitely give you a glimpse into Houston’s past.

“This home was the largest built back in 1929 by oil wildcatter Hugh Roy Cullen!” McKinney explained on the tour.

And folks living around here really do go all out with these lights. On average, they spend upwards of $40,000 or more installing them!

So, if you want to see beautiful lights and learn more about H-Town, why not get on board and get the best of both worlds.

Mister McKinney’s River Oak’s Christmas Lights Tour will run through Jan. 3. Tap here for more information.
