FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas- A Christmas day choice is haunting a Fort Bend County mom, a day after her son lost his life while committing a crime.
“I just wish that I was up to tell him don’t go,” said Johnnie Underwood. “Don’t do it.”
John Holmes was just 18-years-old when authorities say he was fatally shot by a neighbor while breaking into his pickup truck.
Underwood claimed her son was a smart young man who dreamed of becoming an engineer one day.
Holmes had recently graduated from Elsik High School as a Texas Scholar but had also made some bad choices.
“He was a teenager. He snuck out. He did the things teenagers do. I fussed at him.”
And she wished she could have stopped him at the door early Sunday convincing him to stay home.
Underwood harbors no ill will towards the owner of the pickup truck.
“I’m not mad at him under no circumstances. And I hate that my son did that.”
