MICHIGAN, USA — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will announce a lottery-style "MI Shot to Win Sweepstakes" Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m., according to the governor's office. Prizes will include a combined $5 million in cash and nine $55,000 college scholarships.
Michigan residents over 18 who have received at least one dose of the vaccine will be eligible for the cash prize raffle. Those 12-17 will be eligible for the scholarship drawings.
Powered by partnerships with Meijer, the Michigan Association of United Ways and the State of Michigan, the raffle aims to increase the vaccination rate to reach Gov. Whitmer’s goal of 70% across the state. This would require an increase of roughly 9%.
Similar raffles have been used as incentives across the country.
